The BIA heard opposition in a public session attended by members of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation, Golden Hill Paugussett and Schaghticoke Tribal Nation at the Mashpee Wampanoag’s government offices and community center on July, 29th.

EPTN Chairman Dennis Jenkins was quoted by Indian Country Today speaking out against the proposed new rules for federal recognition, “This [proposal] is not only morally reprehensible; it is also arbitrary and capricious and not in accordance with the laws of the United States. … It is the worst kind of modern day genocide.”
